Huron County Warrant Checks
Huron County posts no sheriff's warrant list. There is no county lookup page either. A warrant check here means phone calls. Misdemeanor, traffic, and early felony matters sit with the 73B District Court in Bad Axe. Felonies after bindover and family matters belong to the 52nd Circuit Court, and the County Clerk keeps those files. Before dialing, have the legal name, any alias, a date, and a case or citation number ready.
- Call 73B District Court at 989-269-9987 for a misdemeanor, traffic, or early felony question.
- Call the Circuit Court at 989-269-7112 or the County Clerk at 989-269-9942 after bindover.
- Call the Sheriff's Records desk at 989-269-6500 for a police report or booking record.
- Call the city police agency that wrote the report when a local department handled it.
- Confirm the status with the issuing court, and speak with a Michigan attorney before acting.
A written record request comes next when a call cannot settle it.
Huron County's Three Warrant Counters
Huron County keeps every court in one building at 250 E. Huron Avenue in Bad Axe. The room number decides who answers.
| Room 105 | 73B District Court and Magistrate Court. Misdemeanors, traffic, civil infractions, small claims, and civil cases to $25,000. Phone 989-269-9987. |
|---|---|
| Room 201 | County Clerk and Circuit Court Records Division, which holds circuit files. Phone 989-269-9942. |
| Room 207 | 52nd Judicial Circuit Court. Felonies after bindover, family division, and appeals. Phone 989-269-7112. |
| Research terminal | A public terminal on the second floor across from Room 207. |
| Sheriff and jail | A separate address at 120 S. Heisterman Street for records, patrol, and jail staff. |
The Huron County Clerk's Office holds the circuit records. Ask for a bound-over felony file in Room 201, not at the district counter.
It answers circuit file questions, not district court status questions.
Warrants in Huron County: The Main Types
Michigan courts issue several kinds of criminal process. An arrest warrant authorizes custody on a charge. A bench warrant compels someone who missed a required step, and the two carry different weight in Huron County.
| Warrant Type | How It Arises | Who Issues It |
|---|---|---|
| Arrest warrant | An investigation, a charge decision, and probable cause | 73B judge or magistrate |
| Bench warrant, missed date | A missed required appearance | The court holding the case |
| Bench warrant, unpaid obligation | A past-due civil infraction and a missed hearing | 73B District Court |
| Search warrant | A sworn request to search a place | District or circuit judge |
Why Huron County Has No Warrant Database
Michigan offers no public statewide warrant search. LEIN serves authorized agencies only, and Huron County residents get no warrant data from the state criminal-history product either.
| System | Who Can Use It | What It Answers |
|---|---|---|
| MiCOURT case search | Public | A pointer to a public case, not the official record |
| ICHAT history search | Public, paid | Criminal history, with warrants excluded |
| LEIN | Agencies only | Restricted data the public cannot see |
| Sheriff Records and FOIA | Public, on request | A defined police record |
The MiCOURT case search is a reasonable first look for Huron County dockets. The Michigan State Police page explains the history-product exclusion.
Huron County Warrant Records: What They Show
A warrant is just an entry in a Huron County court file, so what it shows depends on that file. These fields come from the district court's own record request form.
| Court and case number | The court code and case number, shown on county documents as 73B or 52nd. |
|---|---|
| Party name | The name on the case, plus a date of birth where the court asks for one. |
| Case type and offense | Criminal, traffic, or civil, with the offense described. |
| Warrant type and date | Arrest warrant, bench warrant, or show-cause matter, and when it issued. |
| Issuing officer | The judge or magistrate who signed, shown by role. |
| Status and access | Active, served, recalled, or quashed as the docket reads, and public, sealed, or restricted. |
No Huron County office publishes a warrant listing. A court file can still hold the details. Note: Write down the case number and the court name before calling, because those two values locate the file.
Missed Date Is Not an Arrest Warrant
People swap the words. The difference matters. Michigan rules let a court issue a bench warrant after a missed appearance, with a short waiting period before a first warrant and exceptions where immediate action is needed. A missed date does not issue one automatically. The Huron County district court's collections process adds a second route. A past-due civil infraction can lead to a show-cause hearing, and missing that hearing can produce a warrant.
- Bench warrant
- The court's order to bring a person in, usually after a missed appearance or obligation. This is the local Michigan term.
- Show-cause hearing
- A hearing asking a person to explain a nonpayment. It is a court date, not a warrant by itself.
- Recall and quash
- Court actions that withdraw a warrant. Only the issuing court can take either step, and Huron publishes no recall form.
Huron County Warrants: Who Issues, Who Serves
Courts issue warrants and peace officers serve them. Those are two different offices in Huron County. The Huron County Prosecutor reviews a warrant request, decides the charges, and prepares the complaint. A 73B judge or magistrate signs it. The Sheriff's Office or a local police department then makes the arrest. The Sheriff's Office also handles enforcement and its own records, and it is not the court clerk; its divisions include Records, Civil Process, Road Patrol, the Detective Bureau, and Jail Staff.

Local departments serve process in their own areas. The prosecutor's contact list names agencies in Bad Axe, Caseville, Elkton, Harbor Beach, Kinde, Owendale, Pigeon, Port Austin, Sebewaing, and Ubly. Huron County posts no constable or municipal marshal channel.
Complaint to Signed Warrant in Huron County
One Huron County office holds a police report while another holds the warrant. The prosecutor's criminal case process page explains the split.
- An officer investigates, and an arrest can include booking and questioning at the Huron County Jail.
- The officer submits a warrant request to the Huron County Prosecutor.
- The prosecutor decides the charges and prepares a complaint and warrant.
- A District Court judge or magistrate reviews and signs the warrant.
- An arraignment follows, and a felony case can later bind over to Circuit Court.
A police report does not prove a warrant issued. The agency that wrote it cannot explain the docket either. The 52nd Judicial Circuit Court in Huron County publishes its room, contact, hours, and public research terminal.
Felony warrant questions reach the circuit level only after bindover. Until then, the district court stays the first call for most Huron County cases.
Handling a Huron County Warrant
Huron County publishes no process for clearing a warrant. There is no surrender window and no standard amount that lifts one.
- Identify the court holding the case, using the case type to choose between 73B, the circuit clerk, or the family division.
- Ask that court whether the docket shows a warrant, what type, and which step it requires.
- Ask whether the court needs an appearance, a show-cause hearing, a payment, a bond, or a motion to recall or quash.
- Speak with a Michigan attorney before appearing, especially where the case is a felony.
Talk to a lawyer first. A court being open does not mean a warrant counter will recall an order, and an appearance on an active warrant can lead to detention.
Do not use the anonymous tip line, Crime Stoppers, or a paid clearing service for your own case. None of them controls the Huron County file.
Bond and Payment Routes in Huron County
Court payments, bond, and jail money move through different offices, so keep them apart.
| Route | What It Is For | What It Does Not Do |
|---|---|---|
| 73B court payments | Fines and costs, paid online, in person, by phone at 888-604-7888, or by mail to Room 105 | It does not promise that payment recalls a warrant |
| Circuit payments | Fines, costs, and restitution paid through the County Clerk in Room 201, with a 20 percent late penalty after 56 days under MCL 600.4803 | It does not clear a bench warrant by itself |
| Bond-agent list | A January 27, 2026 list of agencies authorized to post criminal bonds under MCL 750.167b, posted at the jail | It publishes no bond amount or bond-window hours |
| Jail contact | Visitation and inmate-money instructions at 989-269-6424 | Inmate money is not bond |
The Huron County traffic fee table is a fine schedule, not a warrant amount. Record-check and copy fees are record costs.
Warrant Record Access Under Michigan Law
Two access systems apply. Mixing them sends a request to the wrong place. Court files in Huron County follow the Michigan Court Rules, while police and county records follow the Michigan Freedom of Information Act. The limits matter as much as the rights. Juvenile records are confidential, search-warrant material carries its own restrictions, and a court can hold back material while an investigation is open.
Key Rules:
MCR 8.119 makes court records generally open to inspection unless a statute, rule, or order restricts them.
MCL 15.231 and following is the Freedom of Information Act, which covers records held by public bodies such as a sheriff.
MCL 15.235 gives a public body five business days to answer a FOIA request, with a possible ten-day extension.
MCL 764.3 sets the failure-to-appear timing expectation and its exceptions.
Family Warrants Take a Different Route
A support problem looks like a warrant question. It is not a district court matter. Circuit Court Family Division hears those Huron County cases, and the Friend of the Court works enforcement.
- Start with Circuit Court Family Division or the Friend of the Court at 989-269-9545.
- Ask what the family case requires, since a missed payment and a missed appearance lead to different steps.
- Expect tighter access rules, since juvenile records are confidential under state law.
Ask the wrong Huron County office. The question comes back as a "not our case" answer, even when the file exists.
Huron County Warrant Roundups: What the Sources Show
Some counties run an annual warrant roundup or an amnesty week. Huron County does not. The sheriff, the courts, the prosecutor, and the city pages announce no such event. A collections process exists through the district court, including payment plans, wage withholding, tax garnishment, and prison commissary collection, but none of that is amnesty and none of it cancels a warrant.
Do not rely on an unofficial roundup. If a social-media post or a paid service promises to clear a Huron County warrant, call the issuing court and confirm what is scheduled.
Tips in Huron County go through a separate channel, laid out on the Huron County most wanted page. Until an official amnesty event appears, call the issuing court.
